The European Parliament and the Council reached the provisional political agreement on the revision of the visa suspension mechanism, proposed by the Commission in October 2023. 

The 2025 IOCTA report shows that organised crime has continued to evolve at an unprecedented pace in the past year. The rapid adoption of new technologies and the continued expansion of digital infrastructure has further shifted criminal activities to the online domain.  

The latest Asylum Report 2025 published by the European Union Agency for Asylum (EUAA) analyses preparations undertaken by EU+ countries to ensure that the necessary arrangements are in place by 2026 for the full implementation of the Pact on Migration and Asylum.   

These agreements, once in force, will allow Norway and Iceland to receive passenger information from air carriers operating between these countries and the EU Member States.

On 11 June, the Commission published a report on the implementation of the Pact, halfway through its transition period. While significant progress has been made since its adoption, further efforts are required ensure the EU's new migration management system is fully operational by June 2026.

The new Status agreement signed between EU and Bosnia and Herzegovina will allow Frontex to carry out joint operations along Bosnia and Herzegovina's borders, including its borders with neighbouring non-EU countries, as well as at border crossing points including airports.

On 12 June, the Horizon Europe fund is launching a new call for projects. With a budget close to EUR 250 million, it will cover EU external border management, protection of infrastructure, cybersecurity, disaster resilience, the protection of EU citizens, and strengthened security research.

The EU Anti-Trafficking Hub brings together expertise and will engage in three main activities: research, analysis, and advice in collaboration with stakeholders. It will serve as a platform for participatory dialogue, and creative thinking for genuine knowledge production and exchange.

The report is based on the latest data from  29 countries (27 EU Member States, Türkiye and Norway) and covers drug use and supply as well as drug-related harms and responses to them. It also explores long-term trends and emerging threats.
